Car history:
Model year 1977 marked a milestone for Corvette. The 500,000th car was born.
When other performance cars were being discontinued Chevrolet kept building
these cars in St. Louis. Corvette continued to evolve from a fire-breathing muscle
car to a suave tourismo, abetted by the recent gas crisis, changing buyers tastes,
and more federal mandates. Yet through all the changes in its character,
the Shark was one of few American performance cars still left, thus one reason
why this code #1YZ37 - 1977 is still available. It is a 3-owner car, a numbers
matching L48 350cid 4bl -V8 engine and is mated to a code #M40 - 3-speed
Turbo Hydramatic transmission. Gears are the standard 3.55:1fare. And at the
same time new carpets and seats were installed. The exterior finish is correct
code #10 Classic White over code #692 Dark brown leather interior. Yes leather
because 1977 was the first year that leather was available. This car is nicely
equipped with power steering, power brakes, power windows, color keyed floor
mats, sport mirrors, convenience group, air conditioning, cruise control, AM/FM
radio, tilt/telescopic steering wheel and much more. Body panels have never been
replaced or any rust issues. And no suspension upgrades. This was the last year
for the vertically positioned rear window. The window was also fixed by this time
so the interior was quieter and no fear of water leakage anymore. Corvette was
no longer badged with the Stingray script. The steering wheel was, not only
moved 2 closer to the instrument panel but it was also leather wrapped to match
the interior. They were also fitted with a new console so universal Delco Radios
could be used. More reminders such as door ajar and headlamp up were
included. Padded sun visors could now be swiveled to cover the side windows.
When you view the pictures you will notice how well this car has been maintained.
Door panels look like new. Fit and finish of body panels is excellent. A small point
but look in the engine bay. No one has touched or removed the air pump. That
was the first thing we did to those old cars back then but fortunately, this one is
unmolested. And this car will move. Car & Driver reported 0 to 60mph in 6.8
seconds and top speeds of 132mph. Very few vehicles elicit the same kind of
satisfaction as the Corvette. The Vette is a symbol of childhood dreams and
grown up triumph. With 1977 being the final year of the flat back window it will
always be a desirable car to own and enjoy. If you are looking for a car to have
fun with, a car with good investment potential, a Corvette that will always be
sought after by collectors, then this is a good one to consider. Where else can you
get this much classic American iron for this little money? If you have never rushed
down a back road in a Corvette, well then, try this one. You will not be
disappointed. Call us today.
